Firstly, in terms of appearance, high-quality carbon brushes should have proper chamfering, standardized structure, appropriate specifications, and meet the requirements for wire cross-section and length, without any looseness, edge loss, detachment, damage, or corner loss.
Next is to use instruments to detect carbon brushes. Electric brushes can be tested according to the required performance through instruments. We can use instruments to measure the bulk density, Rockwell hardness, contact voltage drop, resistivity, current density, friction coefficient, unit pressure, allowable circumferential velocity, and even the size of metal content of electric brushes. Then compare the measured data with the standard values in the "Electric Brush Technical Performance Table" to determine whether the electric brush is of high quality and meets the requirements.
Next, from the perspective of usage, high-quality carbon brushes have a long service life and will not wear down the collector ring or commutator. They will not cause erosion, scratches, unevenness, wire drawing, etc. on the commutator. During operation, they will not overheat and have low noise. High quality carbon brushes also have good commutation and current collection performance, with low energy loss. In addition, high-quality electric brushes can quickly form a uniform layer on the surface of the commutator or collector ring during operation.

Finally, for some large and medium-sized motors with particularly difficult commutation, braided carbon brushes can be chosen.
